Greetings! My name is Princess Leia. I’m a loyal, loving lady who can’t wait to find a home. I’m a 5-year-old, 50-pound, Lab mix. I’m spayed now. My rescue story isn’t exactly a walk through the galaxy… ahem, I mean the park! I am blind and was found in desperate conditions with a litter of puppies in Tijuana. When I got spayed, my funky eye was removed too. All my babies have been adopted and it’s been a bit ruff for this momma. I miss that companionship and hope to find a furever family to fill the void!

I’m a super sweet girl who is completely trusting of her people. I used to love playing with my puppies before they were adopted. Since arriving in the states, I haven’t had many interactions with other pooches. I hope that we’d be friends! I live with a cat and we get along just fine. My foster fam doesn’t have any kids, but I think the more hoomans around to give me love the better! When I’m not keeping my people company, you can find me basking in the sun for a nice snooze.

I’m working on my leash training little by little. I know that with more practice, I’ll enjoy walks soon! I’m bathroom trained, so you don’t have to worry about any accidents in the house. Due to all the recent changes in my little life, I’m coping with some separation anxiety. I do not like to be left alone and will experience anxiety if I do. However, I’m still new to this whole domesticated doggo thing! I think that with a loving household and training, I can start to develop my confidence.

Life hasn’t been easy, but I’m hopeful for the future! I’m a sweet, trusting girl with so much potential. I would be happiest in a home with people around to keep me company. So what do you say? A Stud in a sweater

This little guy is Tiki

He is a 3 year old terrier mix weighing in at 25lbs. He is very playful and friendly! He does need eye drops and also currently on Prozac due to anxiety. Maybe with a lot of love and comfort from someone special, his anxiety will settle. Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, he is a cutie pie!

Let’s get this pawty started!

Aloha, friends! I’m Tiki, and I’m a 3-year-old male terrier mix, weighing about 25 pounds. I’m house-trained and potty-trained and neutered. I’m leash-trained, too, but I do get a little fearful outside with everything going on around me, but I am working on that and making great progress!

My past was anything but a day at the beach. I was set to be euthanized at the Riverside County Shelter, but thankfully I was rescued by TAP just in time! I have an eye injury where I’m unable to blink, and it’s believed to have been caused by abuse. I have received an eye surgery and will need daily eye drops to stay comfortable. I’m initially scared of humans because of what I’ve endured, but my foster mama said that I’ve been able to come out of my shell much quicker than she thought. Prozac is also helpful with my anxiety! Now, I’m just a sweet little lovebug!

My foster mama says I’m the best, most loving, and loyal dog you’ll ever meet!  Despite what I’ve been through, I’m still able to trust and love with my whole heart.  First and foremost, I love being around my foster family. I don’t have any separation anxiety when they leave, but boy, do I get excited when they come home! I also love giving kisses, sun-bathing, eating treats, and dressing up in my sweater collection. Did I mention I love other doggies? Playing around with my fellow canines is one of my favorite activities.  I think I’d do okay with cats and children, too, since I have such a big heart. 

My ideal home would be with a family who likes to get licks and who’d be willing to work with me to build my confidence. First up I "gave you" Diesel a one-year-old Boxer mix with the best ears! And he is ready and waiting for his forever home! 

Now we switch it up and go to a sweet little special needs treasure, named Treasure! She is a year 2 old chihuahua mix and needs some extra care, but I am sure she will fill your life happiness definitely give you unconditional love! You’ve gotta meet this gem!

Hello, darlings! My name is Treasure, and I’m a 2-year-old, spayed Chi mix, weighing in at 6.5 pounds. True to my namesake, I’m a sweet girl who will only enhance your life! Sadly, I haven’t had the most dazzling past. I was found on the streets of Baja with rear leg paralysis, believed to have been hit by a car. As a result, my mobility is a bit limited. Indoors, I can scoot around unassisted (with carpet being easier for me than tile or wood), but when outdoors, I prefer to move around by using my wheelchair since my backside is prone to injuries when near concrete or rock. Due to this condition and the lack of sensation in my legs, I need to have both my bladder and bowels expressed. Thankfully, I don’t need to wear diapers, as I’m pretty good about doing my business during my regular assisted potty breaks.

Despite my special needs, though, I have a heart of gold and a glass-half-full mentality. I love cuddling and napping with you, and I adore being held. But in true Chi fashion, I am also a little spitfire! I love to run/scoot around all day and make you laugh. I have a zest for life, and I love cats and children of all sizes. Other doggies take me a little longer to warm up to, but all in all, I like having them around to play with. I also love playing with my toys and I even run to them first thing in the morning so that I can start squeaking and fetching! I have mild separation anxiety and tend to bark at strangers or when someone’s at the front door. I also have a bit of leash aggression to other doggies while out on a walk, but I am working on it and making progress!

My ideal household would be to anyone willing to open their heart and invest the time and energy to being my caregiver. I’d make a great companion to any type of family.                                              Let's get these babies exposed!

I reached out to The Animal Pad and they gave me 4 dogs that are priority because they aren't getting any applications!! The more I work with the rescue and help with the dogs, the more heartbreaking it is to see these pups in kennels and the condition some of them are in. I really hope with these blogs getting out there that I will be able to help get these pups noticed and find their forever homes!! For each dog that I will "feature" I will use their information from the rescue's website so all of their backstory and information will be provided. 

This boy is the 1st of the 4 dogs....

Breed: Boxer mix

Weight: 65 lbs

Personality: Very loving and trusting!

Education: Good with bathroom, crate and leash training. Enjoys training.

Favorite Activities: Walks, playing with other dogs, training because he gets treat

Looking for: A loving family, moderately active, who can adore him! He will do great either as an only dog or even with dog siblings.

Special needs: Diesel has Canine Severe aortic stenosis. He takes a beta blocker to help with the management of the heart condition and will need to be it on for life. The medication's estimated cost is ~$13.00 per month, depending on market value. Diesel will need regular Cardiologist evaluation of his heart, and to monitor his medication efficacy.

How could you not love this boy and his ears?! I feel for him because I am also on a bet blocker for a heart condition, so I can sympathize! Please pass this boy around to anyone that you know and ask them to do the same. We need to find him a home!

15 years.... and still walking

Hello Everyone!

One of these days, I will prioritize my schedule and make time to stay on top of this blog!

Quick update, I had taken a couple months off from walking to try a job that provided benefits. Well, that didn't work out. As I went to work every morning, I realized this is not what I am meant to do. Benefits or no benefits. My heart lies with the puppies. So back to walking I go! No better benefits than kisses and tail wags!!

A lot of my clients were so happy to hear I was back, and I started walking the following week (in some cases, the next day!) I am truly blessed with the clientele I have and for so many years! 

I also started volunteering for a local rescue called The Animal Pad. They are located in La Mesa, Casa de Oro /Helix area. They are overwhelmed with all the dogs that they have and the condition some of these dogs are in. I have only been there for a couple weeks and I am learning a lot!

One thing I learned is a cancer that dogs can get. It's called Transmissible Venereal Tumor or TVT. It's different from other cancers, TVTs are transferrable between dogs. It is sexually transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact with the tumor that results in cancer cells being transplanted from dog to dog. The rescue has so many of dogs with this disease, it's heartbreaking. Thankfully it is curable tumor with the help of chemo treatments and has an excellent prognosis. 

I am hoping to be able to work with the shelter and "feature" a dog every couple weeks to get them some publicity and also share adoption events that we are having to get as much exposure to these babies as possible.
